"Downtown Southport, Inc. is a non-profit organization. It is dedicated to preserving the heritage and charm of Southport. We encourage and support preservation projects, cultural activities, educational projects, tourism, as well as, economic growth in the downtown area, making downtown Southport a vital, vibrant, year-round community for citizens and guests".

is no longer the quaint fishing village that once was old Smithville.
Change is inevitable. The
challenge today – and the opportunity – is to manage change in such a
way that businesses can thrive and grow, while preserving and maintaining
the quality of life that is “Southport” to tourists, visitors and
full-time residents alike.

is, in fact, everyone’s “downtown”.
Downtown Southport, Inc. (DSI) was established to bring together
city officials, retailers and service providers within the downtown area
of
Southport
in a working partnership designed to become the driving force behind
downtown development. The
collective interests of the community are given a voice in determining the
direction of future development.
With
the
Cape Fear River
and waterfront areas as its centerpiece, DSI is committed to establishing
downtown
Southport
as a prosperous, vibrant city center, which is both revitalized and
inviting to enhance everyone’s experience.
Walking maps showing locations of shops, restaurants, and places of
interest will be made available to the public.
New year-round events, such as a “Farmers’ Market”, “A
Taste of Southport”, “Winterfest” will be organized to provide new
experiences that will draw people to the downtown area.
A Calendar of Events listing new activities, along with the annual
July 4th festivities, Heritage Days, the Spring Festival and
other holiday activities, will help businesses plan special promotions and
encourage tourist and visitor traffic.
As
a member of DSI, you will, have an organized voice in what happens in
downtown Southport, be an integral part of creating an environment in
which your business can grow and succeed, have the opportunity to manage
and guide the future growth of downtown Southport, and work in partnership
with other businesses and the city, providing an effective and unified
voice for all who have a vested interest in the future of downtown
