Mission Statement

Downtown Southport, Inc’s (DSI’s) mission is to enable the business district and historic waterfront areas to be a year round business, cultural and entertainment location for area residents and visitors of Southport by recruiting diverse businesses, encouraging economic development, revitalizing and promoting downtown and supporting existing businesses.  A continuing communication with the public is critical.  Downtown Southport, Inc. is a public-private partnership and a non-profit membership organization.

Purpose

Downtown Southport, Inc. is a partnership between the City, its businesses, merchants and community leaders that is dedicated to preserving the heritage and charm of downtown Southport.  We encourage and support preservation projects, cultural activities and responsible economic growth in the downtown area in order to make downtown Southport a vital, vibrant, year-round community for our citizens and guests.

DSI’s purpose is to provide area residents and visitors of Southport convenient, unique and attractive shopping and dining opportunities that will encourage patronage to the central business district, waterfront and historic areas of Southport.  This will be accomplished through coordinated planning, cooperative partnerships and revitalization of the downtown area that support the following activities:

• Maximize public enjoyment of the Cape Fear River
• Revitalize downtown, enhance the overall appearance of downtown Southport
• Encourage high-quality economic development
• Promote downtown through effective marketing efforts
• Support existing downtown businesses and recruit other businesses that will enhance the downtown area
• Preserve and protect downtown architectural resources
