Come and join your friends as they welcome the return of spring at the Southport Spring Festival this year to be held Friday April 2nd from 10 to 5 and Saturday April 3rd from 10 to 4 in Franklin Square Park in Southport.

The Festival is co-sponsored by Downtown Southport, Inc. and the Southport-Oak Island Kiwanis Club.  The festival features over 100 crafters and their homemade treasures.  Food vendors will be offering usual southern fare and treats for the unusual taste.  There will be beautiful Encore Azaleas and a wide variety of early flowers and plants for sale for your yard and garden.  You will also enjoy live entertainment throughout the festival, held on the center stage in the park.

Several new children (and adult!) activities will be featured in 2010 for your enjoyment.  Four new blow-up rides for the kids will offer “unlimited” play for only $8/day.  Another new activity offers both fun and education for all ages when you purchase a bag of mining ore containing various gems and fossils that you “pan” for in a panning sluice.  Horse and carriage and hay rides will also be available.  Finally, a toy train exhibit, FREE to the public, with feature up to 12 operating train layouts that will be located in the city gym by the games/rides during both days of the festival.

Saturday will feature a Chili Cook-Off Contest from 11am to 2 pm.  2008 featured 9 contestants who prepared a variety chili recipes.  For only $5 you can purchase a tasting ticket to taste and judge each contestant’s specialty.  Voting for the “best tasting chili” and the “best decorated” automatically enters you into a raffle drawing to be announced at the end of the tastings.
